BACOLOD City – This capital city was placed under a “blue alert” status to heighten preparedness, measures and precautionary actions following the upcoming landfall of typhoon Tisoy (international name: “Kammuri”).
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the typhoon, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility over the weekend, is expected to cause moderate to heavy rainfall in this city and some parts of Negros Occidental.
Although this city is not along the typhoon’s projected path, outer rain bands may bring scattered rains and thunderstorms, the state weather bureau added.
“Precautionary measures should be taken as the typhoon could cause flooding, landslides, storm surges, and accidents that could endanger lives and property” said Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Leonardia issued a memorandum directing the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), especially its implementing arm City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, all village officials, and allied agencies to heighten their preparation for the approaching typhoon.
He said that the need for contingency plans to be in place, such as the identification of possible evacuation centers, and the preparation of rescue equipment, personnel, food and medicine.
Last week, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson also issued order to the DRRMO of the province to go on “blue alert” status./PN
