BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) wants the province’s “blue alert” status to remain until end of December.
Zeaphard Caelian, PDMPD head, said it would be best for all local government units to remain on alert and prepared.
After typhoon “Quinta” exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday, the “blue alert” status declared by Lacson over the weekend was immediately lifted.
According to Caelian, it would not be prudent if this alert status is only declared when storms have already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
He cited the forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration that the months of November and December are usually the time when storms cross the Visayas and make a landfall over Negros.
Friday last week, Lacson placed the province under “blue alert” status pointing out that “Quinta” may bring scattered light to moderate or at time heavy rains and thunderstorms in the province./PN
