ILOILO City – A fishing boat capsized in the waters of Barangay Salvacion, Igbon Island Concepcion, Iloilo. The Philippine Coast Guard and Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force rescued 10 persons.
F/B Mary Ann left Barangay Salvacion around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday for the Concepcion Fishing Port in the mainland. It encountered big waves and strong winds.
Although the province of Iloilo was not in the path of super typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) that hit the northern province of Cagayan on Wednesday night, it experienced rough seas due to an enhanced southwest monsoon.
The Manaphag Quick Response Team helped the coastguard and Bantay Dagat rescue the following residents of Concepcion:
* Lucio Boyles Sr., 65, of Barangay Talotoan
*Rene Lugasan, 50, of Barangay Talotoan
*Jesus Onyate, 70, of Barangay Poblacion
*Rodel Subreyu, 34, of Barangay Poblacion
*Romeo Boyles, 33, of Barangay Talotoan
*Ramon Mahusay, 48, of Barangay Talotoan
*Benson Mahusay, 22, of Barangay Talotoan
*Rocky Estrelles, 30, of Barangay Talotoan
*Lucio Boyles Jr., 34, of Barangay Talotoan, and
*Dencio Arellano, 38, of Barangay Talotoan.
Meanwhile, as of yesterday afternoon, “Lawin” was almost out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
After its landfall in Peñablanca, Cagayan as a super typhoon on Wednesday night, “Lawin” started to weaken after hitting the mountains of Sierra Madre and Cordilleras.
At least eight people have been reported dead as “Lawin” slammed into Northern Luzon with its powerful winds and heavy rains.
The Department of Interior and Local Government received reports of eight fatalities – one in Ilocos region, three in Cagayan region and four in the Cordillera Administrative Region./PN
