MANILA – Bobby Ray Parks Jr. had a decent showing as the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins scored a 76-74 victory over Sunrockers Shibuya in the 2023 Japan B.League Division 1 on Sunday night at the Dolphins Arena in Nagoya.
The Gilas Pilipinas winger drilled three outside conversions on his way to 10 points to go with two steals, one rebound and one assist as the Diamond Dolphins opened its campaign with 2-0 win-loss slate.
Robert Franks led the Diamond Dolphins with double-double 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Yutaro Suda converted five three-point baskets to finish with 15 points to go with two steals and a block.
Josh Hawkinson tallied double-double 23 points and 11 rebounds, Anthony Clemons added 15 markers, while Ryan Kelly and Leo Vendrame had 14 and 12 markers, respectively, as Shibuya dropped to 0-2.
Meanwhile, Dwight Ramos was limited with his offensive contribution as the Levanga Hokkaido bounced back with a 79-70 victory over the Akita Northern Happinets over at Hokkaido, Japan.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles forward tallied four points, on 2-of-6 shooting, to go with five rebounds and one assist in 28 minutes of action as the Hokkaido improved to 1-1 win-loss slate.
Matthew Aquino, for his part, displayed his decent outside shooting as the Shinshu Brave Warriors (2-0) scored a 91-83 triumph over the Ibaraki Robots (0-2) at the White Ring Arena.
The Filipino-Japanese center connected three three-point hits for nine points along with five rebounds in eight minutes of action, while Rhon Jay Abarrientos struggled with just two points in 11 minutes.
Matthew Wright, on the other hand, saw his decent offensive game go to naught as the Kyoto Hannaryz (0-2) suffered a close 77-75 defeat to Yokohama B. Cosairs (2-0) at the Kataoka Arena.
The Filipino-Canadian gunner connected four three-point conversions for 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and four assists but was not enough to carry the Hannaryz to their first win./PN
