MANILA – Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and Meralco Bolts are both aiming for a 3-2 lead in Game 5 of the PBA Governors’ Cup best-of-seven finals tonight at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Game time is 6:30 p.m. Ginebra bids to move closer to its first title retention bid as Meralco closes in on its franchise’s first championship.

Bolts leveled the series 2-2 after a nail-biting 85-83 win over Kings in Game 4 on Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on a go-ahead basket by Allen Durham.

Meralco led by as much as 13 points only to trail in the final quarter 78-81 before Baser Amer unloaded a huge trey and Durham converted inside baskets for the team to escape with a victory.

“It’s a big win in the series to comeback and tie them after being down 2-0,” said Bolts head coach Norman Black. “It’s a huge morale boost for us, but coming out fresh in Game 5 is very important for us.”

Kings head coach Tim Cone admitted to being a bit frustrated after his players’ mental lapse in the endgame when they failed to call for a timeout to set up a potentially game-winning play.

Sayang, we could have called a timeout and set up a play,” said Cone. “But that’s over. We just want to focus on Game 5 since it will be crucial for us, with Meralco having the momentum.”

Both teams will come to Game 5 handicapped.

Bolts is missing injured Ranidel de Ocampo and suspended Kelly Nabong while Kings will play without Solomon Mercado, who got hurt in the final seconds of Game 4./PN
