KALIBO, Aklan – An undetonated bomb was found in Barangay Libang, Makato, Aklan.

The 59-year-old village watchman Virgelio Santiago alerted the Makato municipal police station after discovering the M76 rifle grenade in a coconut plantation around 6:40 a.m. on Aug. 16.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine (EOD/K9) Group of the Police Regional Office 6 led by Senior Police Office 4 Vengie Repedro and the 1st Aklan Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Chief Inspector Renante Matillano responded to the area.

The bomb – which was now under the custody of the EOD/K9 Group for disposal – “could explode and kill anyone within 5 to 10 meters radius,” said Repedro.

Village officials and the police were wondering how the rifle grenade got in the area or who brought it there.
