ILOILO City – In Barangay Poblacion, Buenavista, Guimaras a suspsected collector for the illegal numbers game “bookies” was arrested.
The suspect was a senior citizen – 68-year-old Eduardo Echon.
Police caught Echon in the act of soliciting bets around 5 p.m. on Nov. 29. He was detained at the Buenavista police station.
Cops recovered from Echon betting slips, a pen and P350 cash.
Echon faces a charge for violation of Republic Act 9287 (an Act increasing the penalties for illegal numbers games, amending certain provisions of Presidential Decree No. 1602, and for other purposes).
If found guilty by the court for being a collector or agent (cabo, cobrador, coriador or variants thereof), the suspect faces the penalty of imprisonment from eight years and one day to 10 years./PN
