AKLAN – The world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town in this province was named among the “10 Best Islands” by the Travel+Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024.

Boracay ranked fourth, trailing behind Palawan at third place.

Topping the list was Koh Samui in Thailand, followed by Bali in Indonesia.

Others included in the Top 10 were Phuket in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Sumba in Indonesia, Penang in Malaysia, Koh Phi Phi in Thailand, and Phu Quoc in Vietnam.

The Department of Tourism (DOT), meanwhile, is set to reintroduce Boracay as a more Muslim-friendly destination this year.

This September, the DOT will launch the “Muslim-Friendly Boracay,” an initiative in partnership with the local government of Malay, said as it amplifies efforts to attract foreign Muslim travelers to visit the country.

The program would open up “private coves” that Muslim women could access and enjoy./PN
