BORACAY – Local authorities will intensify their crackdown against prostitution in this famed island resort.
Captain Jose Mark Anthony Gesulga, Boracay acting police chief, said they will enforce rigid monitoring of places known for prostitutes.
“It is no surprise that prostitutes are roaming late at night in beach fronts. They approached and targets foreign tourists and locals for sex services,” said Gesulga.
He also urged the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay to amend the Municipal Ordinance No. 160 series of 2002 on prohibiting prostitution in the island.
Pimps and prostitutes violating the said ordinance are penalized with a P1,500 fine and two days counseling for first offenses. A fine of P2,500 and 30 days imprisonment for second and succeeding offenses are meted to pimps while prostitutes are penalized P2,500 fine and 15 days imprisonment for second offenses.
“Ang mga standby na nagbebenta ng aliw, kailangan blacklisted sa isla pag nagcommit sila ng two to three offenses,” the police official stressed.
Last April, police raided KTV bars in Barangay Manoc-Manoc and rescued 33 alleged victims of human trafficking.
Currently, Malay municipal police station has five sub-stations in Poblacion and Caticlan in mainland Malay and in barangays of Yapak, Balabag and Manoc-Manoc. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
