BORACAY – To revolutionize travel, visitors must pay their environmental fees through digital payment solutions starting April 1, 2024.

Tourists should be able to pay their environmental fees more easily and in a secure manner by going digital in the e-Boracay web app, Malay mayor Frolibar Bautista said.

Bautista described the digitalization processes as a competitive edge to provide smooth travel for tourists to the island destination.

Municipal Ordinance No. 431 is imposing charges of P300 for foreign tourists and P150 for non-Aklanon visitors. The ordinance exempts returning Aklanons (balikbayans), Aklanons, and their children and grandchildren, including persons 12 years old and below, from environmental fees.

Bautista said the local government is turning to seamless travel initiatives and has been working to transform the process by going cashless.

Using the digital platform aims to reduce queues, facilitate faster processing at Caticlan and Cagban ports, and further improve the travel experience to and from Boracay Island.

The town mayor said they are also encouraging the Caticlan Boracay Transport Multipurpose Cooperative to use digital platforms in issuing boat tickets to incoming and outgoing Boracay passengers.

The digitalization is supported by SurePay Technologies, Inc., a payment solution provider licensed and regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

By accessing the e-Boracay web app (https://guest.eboracay.net), customers provide personally identifiable information like name, gender, age, country, domestic or foreign. The digital platform also charges P30 for convenience.

This gathering of data is mandatory to comply with the requirements of the local government of Malay, the Province of Aklan, and the Coast Guard and may be subject to the collection, use, storage, destruction, and disclosure of personally identifiable information./PN
