BORACAY – It is expected of this island resort to become a target of all sorts of threats.

After all, it is a world-renowned tourist destination, according to the leader of a local security and emergency task force.

Joint Task Force Boracay head Rowen Aguirre, however, assured that the island “remains free from any [kind of] threat.”

Aguirre told a recent meeting with the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay, the local government with jurisdiction over the island, that the task force continuously monitors security in the island and the rest of the town and nearby areas.

Joint Task Force Boracay has lined up a number of exercises aimed at improving the capability of its members in detecting, preventing and neutralizing terror threats.

The local government of Malay and the Maritime Joint Task Force “Area Shield” Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines formed the Joint Task Force Boracay, which has been active for three months now.

Aguirre, the task force leader, is also the executive assistant for Boracay affairs at the municipal government.

More trainings and capability exercises among joint task force members will be held next month, said Lieutenant Commander Julius Reyes of the Maritime Joint Task Force “Area Shield” Central Command.

They were also strengthening coordination with communities and local stakeholders, Reyes said. (PNA)
