BORACAY – No significant crimes were reported during the observance of Semana Santa in Boracay Island.

Malay Chief Police, Lt. Col. Don Dicksie De Dios said the Holy Week was generally peaceful in the entire Boracay Island.

From April 11 to 17, 2022, no robbery, physical injury, theft, and murder incidents, also known as index crimes, were recorded in the island.

“The security of our police and other agencies continues, we were on full alert status during Holy Week,” he said.

De Dios said the increased police visibility, enhanced patrol operations and cooperation of security forces in Boracay Island contributed to the peaceful and orderly celebration of Holy Week.

Domestic tourists came mostly from National Capital Region, Western Visayas, Calabarzon and Cebu, while foreign visitors, majority from United States, Germany and Canada, also stayed in the island for their Holy Week vacation.

“Let us be disciplined only when we travel to Boracay and follow the rules, laws and ordinances. We are grateful to our staff, they are the ones who stay awake beyond the call of duty,” De Dios stressed.

De Dios also reminded everyone to wear face masks, regardless of vaccination status, to contain the spread of Covid-19.

“We continue to restrict the wearing of face masks, especially in public places,” he added./PN
