AKLAN – Boracay Island in Malay town bagged Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination 2024 award at the prestigious 2024 World Travel Awards (WTA).
The WTA Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony held at the City of Dreams Manila on Tuesday, September 2, was the Philippines’ first time hosting the international awards body.
The Philippines also won seven more tourism awards: Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign 2024 (Love The Philippines), Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2024 (Intramuros), Asia’s Leading Beach Destination 2024, Asia’s Leading Dive Destination 2024, Asia’s Leading Island Destination 2024, and Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination 2024 (Cebu).
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said the accolades serve as “a vote of confidence from the global travel community in the Philippines”.
WTA acknowledges, rewards and celebrates excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. It is the brand recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.
Additionally, the WTA gala ceremonies are regarded as milestone events in the travel calendar, attended by the industry’s key decision-makers, figureheads, influencers, and media.
Meanwhile, Boracay Island recorded 159,826 tourist arrivals from August 1 to 31 this year, data from the Malay Tourism Office showed.
The number consists of 127,549 domestic visitors, 30,596 foreign tourists, and 1,681 overseas Filipino workers/Filipinos.
Boracay Island previously won tourism awards such as World’s Best Island, World’s Greatest Places, and Asia’s Top Island./PN
