BORACAY – Starting yesterday, the road affected by the rehabilitation project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in this island was closed off to motorists.

“For safety reasons, huwag nang pumasok sa main road mula Cagban hanggang Laketown,” said Metro Boracay Police Task Force commander Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay Jr.

The road widening project, which affects the whole Cagban-Laketown stretch, is aimed to ease traffic congestion in the island resort.

Traffic signs will be installed to inform residents of the road closure, added Cambay.

He also said his personnel will help motorists going to and from barangays Manoc-manoc and Balabag by showing them the alternate route.

Motorists driving all types of vehicles have to use the two-lane circumferential road east of Boracay, Cambay stressed.

Maraming gigibain. Maraming trucks na dumadaanPati paglalakad sa main road, iwasan na rin natin. Doon tayo sa alternate route para sa ating kaligtasan,” he said.

The DPWH started demolishing structures affected by the road widening projects three months ago.

The project also involves the installation of pipes to improve the drainage system in Boracay.

Bike lanes and pathways for pedestrians are part of the project, too.

The DPWH was allocated P490 million for the rehabilitation project that covers three sections of the island’s main road, which is among the priority of the national government.

Boracay was closed off to tourists starting April 26 at President Rodrigo Duterte’s order. The half-year shutdown paved the way for the island rehabilitation. (With a report from Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
