BORACAY – The Malay Police Station has intensified its efforts in monitoring the entry of illegal drugs in Boracay Island following its reopening last October 1.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Pablito said he alerted his men to thoroughly inspect the baggage of the tourists entering the island.
“We have not received reports of the presence of drug groups in the island but we want to make sure that no illegal drugs will penetrate the area. This time, mahirapan ang drug pushers pumasok ngayon sa Boracay kasi kailangan ang names, at the same time maraming requirements so mahirapan sila magdala ng droga,” Pablito said.
He said that aside from strict police inspection, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6 and Philippine Coast Guard deployed three sniffing dogs to help detect illegal drugs.
Pablito said he has enough men to be utilized in drug monitoring and operations.
“As of now we are focusing on newly identified drug personalities in the area and based on our assessment, there is a big decrease on drug proliferation because of the lockdown due to the coronavirus disease 2019,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pablito said that no big incidents had happened in Boracay since Oct. 1 and their 400 personnel are already enough to secure local tourists./PN
