BORACAY – This island recorded its first death from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The patient was a 47-year-old male from Barangay Manocmanoc.
An electric tricycle driver, he was rushed to the Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital in Barangay Balabag on April 20 for excruciating pain on the chest but lost consciousness along the way.
He was pronounced “dead on arrival” at the hospital where he was subsequently swabbed.
The test result was released on April 22.
Case No. 1497 was a resident of Zone 5. The body was disinfected and sealed, then quickly buried at the Barangay Manocmanoc cemetery in keeping with the protocols set by health authorities.
There is no crematorium yet in Boracay so the body was not cremated.
As of April 22, Boracay reported 63 active COVID-19 cases.
Outside Boracay Island, residents tested positive for the virus in Cubay Sur, Caticlan, Cogon and Argao in the municipality of Malay.
