BORACAY – The first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp called “Safe Travels” by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has been awarded to Boracay Island.

This stamp assures travellers that this world-famous destination is safe to visit during this time of coronavirus pandemic.

Also, 11 accommodation establishments (AEs) here accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT) joined the growing list of “Safe Travels” businesses.

WTTC established universal protocols to support communities and government efforts to reopen economies and tourism. The travel stamp is endorsed by over 200 tourism groups including the United Nations World Tourism organization.

The Boracay hotels and resorts recognized for their commitment to WTTC global protocols are Lime Hotel, Belmont Hotel Boracay, Hue Boracay, Wald’s Place, Villa Camilla Beach Boutique Hotel, Discovery Shores Boracay, Movenpick Resort and Spa Boracay, Le Soleil de Boracay, Lind Boracay, Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort, and Amable Suites.

These AEs ensure that the health and safety guidelines issued by the World Health Organization are implemented so travellers can stay and experience positive, secure and safe travel in destinations despite the risk of coronavirus.

The bright green WTTC stamp is also being used by major holiday destinations in the world such as Belize, Aruba, Saudi Arabia, Paraguay, Grenada, Portugal, Mauritius, Dubai,  Turkey, Zambia, Barcelona, London, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Croatia, Egypt, Bulgaria,  Guatemala, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Panama, and Slovenia.

In a statement, tourism chief Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said “keeping the tourism workers and tourists safe is critical in the reopening of the tourism destination.”/PN
