Boracay security agencies urged to seek Comelec gun ban exemption

MALAY, Aklan – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Malay, Aklan urged licensed private security agencies to seek authority to possess and carry firearms in view of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

Private agencies providing security personnel to hotels, resorts and restaurants or guarding residential houses in Boracay Island should have written authority from Comelec.

Resolution No. 10918 stated that no person shall bear, carry or transport firearms or deadly weapons, outside his/her residence or place of business, and in all public places, including any building, street, park, and in private vehicles or public conveyances, even if he/she is licensed or authorized to possess or to carry the same, unless authorized by the Comelec-Committee on the Bank on Firearms and Security Concerns.

The election gun ban will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 28 until Nov. 29, 2023.

Elma Cahilig, Election Officer III, said more than 500 aspirants in 17 barangays of Malay, Aklan for BSKE are expected to file their certificates of candidacy from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2, 2023.

The manual voting in clustered precincts will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2023./PN
