Boracay to get solar-powered lampposts from PAGCOR

BORACAY ISLAND – Residents and visitors in Boracay Island may soon enjoy projects from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

PAGCOR is partnering with the local government of Malay, Aklan to fund solar powered lighting facilities with posts and portable toilets in the island worth P5 million.

The installation of adequate lightings in the vegetation areas will ensure the safety and security of tourists and guests and improve the peace and order in Boracay Island.

Proper sanitation and hygiene for tourists – a place to relieve themselves – is also readily accessible with portable toilets in strategic areas.

Town councilor Dante Pagsuguiron noted that residents and establishments in unlighted sections of the vegetation areas are expected to benefit from solar-powered lampposts.

The roll out of PAGCOR’s twin projects is consistent with the development programs of the local government of Malay, Aklan and rehabilitation efforts of Boracay Island.

For their part, the Sangguniang Bayan members of Malay, Aklan thanked the latest private-public partnership as well as PAGCOR for its socio-civic projects and assistance to reach out to the local government units in Aklan.

PAGCOR, under the Office of the President, earmarks funds to assist community development projects in various parts of the country.

The agency remits half of its income to the National Treasury and a portion allocated for its mandated beneficiaries and the underprivileged sectors of society. (Akean Forum/PN)
