BORACAY – A boom in foreign holidaymakers this summer in Boracay Island is expected as tourism started picking up.
After enduring two years of the coronavirus pandemic, Boracay Island allowed foreign tourists to enter quarantine-free in February, contributing to the early recovery of tourism and economy. Foreign visitors who have Covid-19 vaccine certificates before traveling will be allowed entry without restrictions.
The island saw the arrival of 1,732 foreign tourists from March 1 to 24, 2022. The bulk of arrivals came from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Singapore, and Korea.
Domestic tourism also keep Boracay afloat when the number of visitors in March soared to 111,022 compared to 80,095 in February.
Until now, airlines have yet to confirm direct or chartered flights from mainland China, South Korea, Macau, or Taiwan to Kalibo International Airport in Kalibo, Aklan.
There is no curfew at the moment and masks are required at all times in public – even outdoors in Boracay Island.
The province of Aklan is still battling the coronavirus, with caseloads slowly declining and restrictions easing in Alert Level 1. There are 15,194 cases and 365 deaths since the pandemic began.
