BORACAY — Known for its pristine white beaches and vibrant nightlife, Boracay Island has long been a popular destination for both local and international tourists.
However, tourist arrivals in Boracay decreased in April 2024, with a total of 182,647 visitors, according to the Malay Tourism Office.
This represents a downturn from the 191,326 tourists recorded in March, and is significantly lower than the figures from April of the previous year.
The breakdown of April’s tourist demographics included 145,455 local tourists, 1,623 overseas Filipinos, and 35,569 foreign tourists.
From January to March 2024, the data highlighted that Korean nationals were the most frequent visitors among foreign tourists, with a total of 50,329 arrivals.
Boracay can be accessed via flights to either Caticlan or Kalibo airports, followed by a short boat ride to the island itself. This accessibility contributes to its appeal as a must-visit location for those seeking a tropical getaway.
Despite the recent decrease in tourist numbers, the local government unit of Malay which was jurisdiction over Boracay is aiming to surpass the annual target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals./PN
