AKLAN – The Malay Tourism Office (MTO) of Malay town in this province reported a significant decline in the number of tourist arrivals in Boracay Island.

MTO data showed that the world-famous island welcomed a total of 182,776 tourists in May this year – much lower than the 207,512 tourists arrivals recorded in the same month last year.

Of this May’s figures, 151,820 were local tourists, 1,631 overseas Filipinos, and 29,325 foreign tourists.

Despite the decline, the local government of Malay is still optimistic of higher tourist arrivals in the succeeding months. It aims to exceed its annual target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals.

Meanwhile, Boracay Island was named as one of the 10+ best white sand beaches in the world by Cabin Zero.

In a Facebook post yesterday, the MTO said the recognition highlights the unparalleled beauty and charm that make Boracay white beach a top destination for travelers worldwide.

“White Beach in Boracay, Philippines, is widely recognized as one of the best white sand beaches in the world. Its pristine white sand stretches for over 4 kilometers, framing crystal-clear turquoise waters that gently lap against the shore. Imagine walking along the shoreline of a beach with the most exquisite sand you’ve ever laid eyes on. The sand is so delicate and powdery that it feels like walking on clouds. It’s a beachgoer’s paradise, a sunbather’s dream come true,” read part of the article posted on Cabin Zero’s website.

It added: “Its sand stays cool to the touch, even on the hottest of summer days. That’s right, you can visit this beach anytime, any season and still experience the ultimate barefoot stroll. With its pure, delicate sand, this beach is the perfect destination for those seeking a truly magical seaside getaway.”
