BORACAY – Tourists continue to flock this popular beach destination after the easing of quarantine restrictions.

More than 512,000 tourists already visited the island from Feb. 1 to May 16, data from the Malay Municipal Tourism Office showed.

The island saw the highest ever tourist arrivals while under a pandemic this April with 186,751 visitors.

From May 1 to 16, the island recorded 93,907 tourists or a current daily average of arrivals at 5,869.

The number of tourist arrivals in March 2022 was 150,597 – higher compared to the 80,882 tourists in February 2022.

This year, the number of foreigners visiting Boracay Island exceeded 9,900 or almost two percent of the total arrivals between Feb. 1 to May 16.

Most inbound foreign tourists came from the United States with 2,004, while those from the United Kingdom trailed in second place with 845.

Americans made up 20 percent of the overall inbound foreign tourists at 9,984.

Other top tourist sources were Australia with 789, Germany with 554 and Korea with 488.

Canada, Israel, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and China were also in the top 10 sources of tourists.

Tourists arriving in the island need to present vaccination certificates.  There are no other quarantine requirements.

International flights from Korea, Taiwan and mainland China have yet to resume to Kalibo International Airport./PN
