AKLAN – In a promising boost to the regional economy, Boracay Island reported a significant increase in tourist arrivals this June, with figures reaching 205,246 — a notable rise of 22,000 compared to May.

Official statistics reveal that the island has welcomed over 1.1 million visitors in the first half of 2024 alone.

Most of June’s tourists were locals, with 179,446 domestic visitors recorded, complemented by 23,566 foreign tourists and 2,234 overseas Filipinos.

The sustained influx of tourists is supported by Boracay’s renowned accessibility; visitors usually arrive via flights to Caticlan or Kalibo airports, followed by a short boat ride.

Boracay is celebrated for its pristine white beaches, vibrant nightlife, and diverse aquatic activities, making it a linchpin in both the regional and national tourism sectors.

The island’s economic contribution is vital, providing employment and supporting local businesses, thereby playing a crucial role in the socioeconomic development of Malay, Aklan which has jurisdiction over it, the province of Aklan, the Western Visayas region, and the national economy.

The local government of Malay aims to double down on this positive trend by targeting a total of 2.3 million tourists by year’s end, capitalizing on Boracay’s status as a premier destination for travelers seeking a tropical escape./PN
