BORACAY – The Malay Municipal Tourism Office recorded a 9-percent increase in tourist arrivals during the Lenten season in the world-famous island.

The total tourist arrivals from April 14 to 19 this year showed an increase at 50,896, higher than the 46,610 listed for the same period in 2018.

Tourists from South Korea and China posted the largest number of tourist arrivals.

Domestic travelers also accounted 26,811 arrivals, higher than last year’s 24,879 tourist arrivals.

According to the local tourism office, the influx of tourists visiting Boracay Island during Holy Week is attributed to the long weekend holidays in April, low-cost flights in Kalibo and Caticlan airports and the ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the island. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
