BORACAY – As pandemic travel restrictions eased, 135,252 visitors came to Boracay Island in October, representing 96 percent of the October 2019 visitors.
More than 1.4 million tourists stayed in Boracay Island through the first 10 months of 2022, nearly 83 percent of pre-pandemic times of 1,742,459 visitors from January to October 2019.
For the month of October, foreign tourists recorded 16,087, down by 77 percent compared to the October 2019 levels.
Tourist traffic data on the 2022 arrivals is also encouraging. The forecast suggests international and domestic arrivals are expected to reach 85 percent of the 2019 levels by end of the year.
In 2022, almost 1,330,000 domestic visitors travelled to Boracay, surpassing the arrivals in 2019 by 536,665.
In late October, the provincial government of Aklan managed to ease more restrictions, including lifting the quick response (QR) codes requirement for incoming travelers to Aklan and Boracay Island as tourists are resuming their pre-pandemic life./PN
