BORACAY – The Malay municipal police station has urged tourists in this world-famous island to be vigilant in the upcoming surge of holidaymakers.

“Avoid having drinks with people you barely know to avoid possibility of rape or theft. Have good, clean fun with a group to avoid untoward incidents due to intoxication,” the Malay municipal police station said in a social media post.

The local police raised the safety concerns after a number of incidents took place in Barangay Balabag here.

Meanwhile, the island is still recovering from the aftermath of typhoon Ursula. Many resorts and establishments use power generator sets for their amenities while the commercial flights here (Caticlan) airport and boat trips from Caticlan to this island were resumed.

The automated teller and cash deposit machines of some banks are still offline as of this writing, while residents and motorists waited in lines to get fuel in gasoline stations as the local government tries to address the issues.(With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
