Boracay’s tourist numbers up

BORACAY – Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan welcomed 1,528,095 tourists for the first eight months of this year.

Citing the ease of travel restrictions, the number is 29 percent higher than last year’s 1,181,742.

The busiest months of 2023 were April and July, with 213,736 and 207,696 arrivals, respectively.

The number of foreign tourists rose by 430 percent in 2023.

According to the Malay Municipal Tourism Office, Boracay Island has received 292,385 overseas visitors compared to 55,184 foreign guests in 2022.

Despite the sharp rise in international arrivals, inbound travelers remained way below pre-pandemic levels.

As of August this year, there were 1,202,512 domestic travelers on the island.

However, in 2022, of the 1.751 million people who had visited Boracay Island, domestic leisure travel accounted for 90 percent./PN
