I HAVE been reading books since I was a kid. My favorite place in school was the library. I spent my time reading magazines, newspapers, fiction, and other reading materials. I also allotted a portion of my allowance to buy books that I liked. I remember I could finish reading my favorite book within the day. I would not stop until I am done.

My fondness of reading introduced me to the “Twilight Universe” of Stephenie Meyer. I am aware that there are a lot of critics of the books Meyer wrote, but I don’t care. Appreciation is relative. I love the way Meyer writes. She uses simple words and her characters are relatable.

In “Twilight Saga”, my personal favorite is the first book, “Twilight”, and the last book, “Breaking Dawn.”

“Twilight” was the first time Edward Cullen was introduced and I like the way Meyer painted the love story of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. Ah! Young love, sweet love.

I like “Breaking Dawn” because Edward and Bella got married and they vowed to protect their family no matter what. They also promised to love each as long as they both live.

The first time I read “Twilight”, I was enthralled. I was hooked. I am in love with a fictional character. I am in love with Edward Cullen.  I know a lot of readers can relate to my experience of feeling a silly crush with a literary character.

If Edward Cullen is a real person and not a vampire, I am pretty sure a lot of teenage girls will like him. He is passionate, protective and family-oriented, loving, sweet and polite. He is willing to take all the bullets for the sake of someone he loves. He is not selfish. He will not hamper the happiness of the person he loves. He is willing to sacrifice even to the point of letting go the person he loves so much.

Although Edward is not perfect – he has flaws like his temper and being overprotective – still I admire him for his immense love for Bella Swan. How I wish boyfriends and husbands would show this kind of love to their girlfriends and wives.

On the other hand, Edward is a type of guy who maximizes his time. He is into reading, studying languages, science, business, and music. He is also a virtuoso on the piano. Edward likes to drive fast. He collects cars, too. Edward and I share the same passion in reading and driving (but not too fast). Although I do not play musical instruments, I love listening to music. It soothes my soul and it refreshes me. We are compatible in some areas.

There was a point in Edward’s life when he became a pessimist. He feels he is an abomination. In our lives, sometimes we feel nothing is going right and we are not good enough. I have experienced those episodes in my life. However, I refused to be swallowed by these negative feelings. I rise above and conquered my fears. I love it because Edward triumphed over these negative emotions. He became braver and learned to appreciate himself.

So yeah, I love Edward Cullen. I wish there are a lot of Edwards in this modern times. He is not entirely a perfect character but he epitomizes the kind of guy every parent wishes their daughter to have. I would love my daughter to find a guy who will love her forever, who will never hurt her, and who will take care of her when I am gone.

I have realized the joy that reading brings. I am free to imagine. My world suddenly becomes a beautiful and colorful place. If I am not a reader, perhaps I would not have met Edward. I would not be able to appreciate him as a literary character and I would not have developed a crush on him.

So, shall we read more books?/PN
