Boy, 16, drowns in Dueñas river

ILOILO – A 16-year-old boy drowned in a river in Sitio Caminacan, Barangay Batuan, Dueñas town.

Dueñas police identified the victim as Jake Pacheco, a resident of the town’s Barangay Anjawan.

According to Police Captain Jesus Batilante, chief of Dueñas Municipal Police Station, the victim and his four friends went to the river to wash the top-down tricycle on Friday morning, May 31.

The victim possibly reached the deep portion of the river and because he did not know how to swim, he drowned, Batilante added.

Dueñas police and personnel of the town’s Bureau of Fire Protection and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately launched a rescue and retrieval operation.

The victim’s body was found after over an hour.

Batilante said the boy was rushed to Don Valerio Palmares, Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Passi City but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician./PN
