ILOILO City – A six-year-old boy drowned in a fishpond in Barangay Tanza Bonifacio, City Proper district here around 9:30 a.m. yesterday.
Marty Jamolo was declared “dead on arrival” at the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital, her grandmother Teresa Jamolo confirmed.
According to the residents, they last saw the child alive at around 7 a.m.
After a while, a hand flapping at the fishpond was seen by a resident who was feeding a chicken nearby.
He immediately asked for help, and the family later confirmed the identity of the child; his slippers and money were left on the side of the pond.
The barangay tanods responded first, and soon the members of the Philippine Coast Guard also arrived to help in the search and retrieval operation.
After more than an hour and a half, a barangay tanod was able to locate the child.
Police report showed the child’s body was already dark in color when he was pulled out of the water./PN
