ILOILO City – Policemen were attempting to arrest two fugitives yesterday in Barangay Agpalali, Tapaz, Capiz but a 13-year-old boy was gunned down in crossfire.
The teenager died of gunshot wounds on the abdomen and thighs at the Tapaz District Hospital, according to Senior Inspector Hilbert Gervero, Tapaz police chief.
Five personnel of the Tapaz police station were tasked to serve arrest warrants to the boy’s father Mario Felomino and uncle Rolando Felomino who were charged with murder around 7 a.m.
According to Gervero, the Felomino brothers fired shots at his men.
“Our men fired back at the fugitives and the boy ran to his father; that was why he was hit,” said the police chief.
The Felomino brothers escaped, leaving the wounded boy behind.
The boy died while being rushed by policemen to the hospital.
Gervero said Mario was No. 6 and Rolando No. 7 in the Tapaz police station’s list of municipal fugitives. Their arrest warrants were issued by Judge Edith Orendain-Tonogbanua of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 20.
The Felominos were accused of killing a cousin in 2015.
“The boy was not our policemen’s target. Unfortunately he was accidentally hit. He tried nga i-cover tatay n’ya,” said Gervero.
Gervero ordered a manhunt against the Ferlominos.
The fugitives were armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, he said./PN
