Bravo!

IT’S RATHER ironic that the power distribution utility now serving “I Am Iloilo City” has never made any claims that it is Ilonggo” yet is more Ilonggo and has done more (pun intended) for the natives of the city than that defunct power provider that bragged it was born and bred in Iloilo City.

For almost a century, “I Am Iloilo City” was “served” by a power distribution utility where “corporate social responsibility” seemed like an alien concept. During that span of time under its watch the citizens/consumers never experienced what “Corporate Social Responsibility” was because this erstwhile power distribution utility was never a “Good Corporate Citizen” (they might not even know the meaning of the phrase they were just there for the profit).

But all that has changed when MORE Power took over as “I Am Iloilo City’s” power distribution utility and became a partner in the city’s development according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Since then Iloilo City experienced change, a change for good as the order of the day was to provide excellent customer service and upgrade the power distribution facilities to be at par with the 21st century within the next five years.

And this is what I’m talking about:

Since day one and for three consecutive years now, when MORE Electric and Power Corporation started its operation as the distribution utility of Iloilo City, the company opened its heart once again and pulled its extra resources together to support 10 institutions in Iloilo City that are also helping others in the spirit of charity and community.

The 10 institutions that received assistance from the company were the following:

1. Asilo de Molo, Inc.

2. Philippine Red Cross-Iloilo Chapter

3. Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish Clinic of St. Clement’s Church

4. Colegio de San Jose

5. Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center

6. Iloilo Two Hearts Foundation

7. Friend of Cancer Kids Iloilo Foundation, Inc.

8. Assumption Iloilo Educational Foundation

9. Carmelite Sisters

10. Philippine Action for Community-Led Shelter Initiatives Inc. (PACSI) Thru: Homeless People’s Federation Philippines, Inc. Iloilo City

I suppose I need not elaborate further what these charitable institutions do as they are well known to every Ilonggo for their acts of kindness.

It is really in the company’s way of doing business, to set aside a portion of its resources where they will create the most impact by helping others. MORE Power is very pleased and more than glad to help and be of assistance to these institutions.

In today’s corporate / business world it is no longer just enough to earn profit and along the way pay your taxes. There’s this thing called Corporate Social Responsibility. This is not a new thing; it has been there for sometime the sad fact is that it is still alien to some businesses.

Corporate social responsibility is a type of international private business self-regulation that aims to contribute to societal goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in or supporting volunteering or ethically-oriented practices.

Meanwhile, still on spreading goodness, MORE Power turned over illuminated police signages to the Iloilo City Police Office.

In a simple ceremony, MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Z. Castro sealed the partnership with PCol. Leo Tejam Batiles of Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), through a Memorandum of Agreement last December 16, 2022.

The MOA embodied the objective of both MORE Power and ICPO to make the police stations more visible to the public at night especially in cases of emergencies where the safety and protection of the public are at stake.

MORE Power’s donation of the four signages is the company’s way of showing its gratitude to the PNP for their assistance in curbing the massive pilferage in Iloilo City since MORE Power took the role of being the distribution utility of the city.

The Philippine National Police plays a pivotal part during the anti-pilferage operations of MORE Power by securing the apprehension team and the consumers for a peaceful consumer-awareness campaign while helping them out become legitimate consumers of MORE Power.

Bravo, indeed, MORE Power./PN
