THE 2018 WVRAA Meet secondary boys football finals between Iloilo and Negros Occidental on Wednesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City ended in a brawl.

It was halted just minutes after it started when national referee Steve Supresencia was attacked by a Negros Occidental team member for a non-call on a contact between a Negros and an Iloilo player.

Negros coach Ian Combate punched Supresencia, WVRAA Meet technical officer Dax Ian Barrieto told Bombo Radyo Iloilo.

But Supresencia told Panay News it was a player who struck him first.

“May nangyaring bundulan between a player from Negros Occidental and Iloilo,” he told this reporter. “Medyo natagalan lang ako sa pag-call (ng foul) dahil tinitignan ko pa ang sitwasyon.”

“Then noong tatawagan ko na, bigla akong binundol noong isa sa mga coaches ng Negros, then gumanti ako. Tapos iyong goalkeeper nila lumapit at sinuntok ako sa mukha. Doon na nagsimula iyong gulo,” he said.

Supresencia said he who sustained lumps and lacerations on the mouth. He added that he intends to press charges against his attackers, who have not yet been clearly identified as of press time.

With the incident, Negros Occidental was disqualified and Iloilo was declared champion, Sports Development Officer IV Ray Cabarles of the Iloilo provincial government said.

“It was also suggested for them (Negros Occidental) to go home already because siyempre, taga-rito iyong referee, para maiwasan na rin any untoward incidents,” Cabarles said./PN
