BACOLOD City – Barangay Alijis’ Carmen Avenue has been cleared of road obstructions on Monday, April 8.
A total of 18 kiosks, mostly selling ready-to-wear (RTW) items, doing business on the sidewalk were reportedly affected.
The City Enforcement Team (CET) led by team leader Rey Demisana carried out the road clearing operation in compliance with the order of the City Legal Office (CLO).
Carmen Avenue was located near the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan.
The CET said heavy traffic is expected in the said area during the upcoming Negros Occidental’s Panaad Festival from April 15 to 21, thus the need to clear the area from illegal structures.
Prior to road clearing operation, a tension occurred after Alijis barangay captain Deogracias Dela Vega opposed for the failure of the CET to coordinate with the barangay.
Demisana, however, stressed that the kiosks were considered illegal because they have encroached almost two meters of the road.
He added that vendors should have secured business permits from the city government and not from the barangay.
“Wala na [business] permits [from the city government]… Kag na-inform na si kap, he is aware during sa meeting sa Panaad. That’s why waay ko nag-coordinate sa ila tungod sia (Dela Vega) nakahibalo na nga indi diri [Carmen Avenue] dapat pagbutangan structures,” Demisana said in an interview with RMN DYHB Bacolod 747.
The CET leader added they welcome any charges that will be filed against the demolition team.
“Nagahambal sia [Dela Vega] nga ma-akusar sia. Ti, okay lang, ma-counter lang ta,” Demisana said./PN
