ILOILO – This province administered anti-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) shots to 26,500 residents in its “Bulig Bakuna,” a village-based vaccination campaign.
Between Sept. 7 and Nov. 3, here’s the breakdown of recipients from various local government units (LGUs): Pototan (4,429), Santa Barbara (6,365), Tigbauan (573), Anilao (239), Badiangan (486), Cabatuan (1,684), Calinog (166), Dueñas (716), Leon (3,159), Miag-ao (1,160), New Lucena (1,470), Oton (1,567), and Pavia (4,452).
The figures could still increase as more people queue in barangay vaccination sites, said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, head of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
“Bringing the vaccines to the barangays is advantageous to residents because they do not have to travel to vaccination sites and risk being exposed to COVID-19,” said Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

Santa Barbara town was the first town-recipient of the village-based inoculation.
Quiñon encourages LGUs with low vaccination turnout and high active coronavirus cases to coordinate with the PHO.
As of Oct. 31, data showed these towns had low vaccination accomplishment:
* Estancia – 23 percent of the 36,320 total target population
* Carles – 26 percent of the 50,994 total target population
