‘Brgy execs must remain neutral’

ILOILO City – Village officials in the province of Iloilo were reminded to refrain from engaging in partisan politics and campaigning for certain political candidates for the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.

Liga presidents and village officials “should remain apolitical,” said Liga ng mga Barangay Federation president Dorothy Paes on Thursday.

“They should not be found siding with a political party,” she added. “In our recent regular meeting, I made mention of that. I told them to always remember that we are nonpartisan.”

No reports or complaints of partisan village officials reached the Liga Federation, Paes said.

Village officials found favoring a certain political party or a candidate can be held accountable before the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Office of the Ombudsman, she added.

“If we receive direct complaint in the Federation, we assure that we will find solutions in addressing the complaint,” Paes said.

The campaign period for local candidates (congressmen, governors, vice governors, provincial board members, mayors, vice mayors, and municipal and city board members) began yesterday, March 29. (With PNA/PN)
