BACOLOD City – Barangay officials play an important role in the campaign against illegal drugs, according to Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.

They know who are the drug pushers and drug lords in their respective barangays, said Go during the Anti-Drug Summit 2018 in Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Sunday.

In his speech, Go stressed that the “war on drugs” will not stop until President Rodrigo Duterte’s term ends.

He also advised the youth to stay away from drugs and encouraged them to be involved in sports – like basketball – instead.

Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Negros Occidental, 3rd District), who was at the event, said the antidrug campaign must start at the barangay level.

If the campaign won’t start from the barangays, the government will find a hard time fighting drugs, Benitez added.

Thousands – composed of mayors and barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials – attended the summit.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, Rep. Greg Gasataya (Bacolod City), Rep. Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod party-list), Department of Interior and Local Government undersecretary Martin Diño, and Development Bank of the Philippines director Jesus Hinlo were also there./PN
