NUMA NCIA, Aklan – Residents of Barangay Badio oppose the proposed establishment of a crematorium at the back of the public cemetery in their village. They fear possible adverse health and environmental consequences.
Barangay Captain Victor Crispino said the crematorium plan was already presented to the Sangguniang Bayan even if no consultations with barangay officials and residents were held.
“There is a possibility that coronavirus disease 2019 viruses may leak from the crematorium,” read a portion of the barangay residents’ petition opposing the plan.
The crematorium proponent was reported to be from Pangasinan and already secured a business permit last week.
Over 300 residents of Barangay Badio have so far signed the petition opposing the crematorium.
A similar petition as also being circulated for signatures in the adjacent barangays of Poblacion and Dongon East./PN
