ILOILO – Barangay tanods in the province will be receiving P1,000 cash incentive each this December.
The provincial government has allotted a P25-million fund for the financial assistance of some 20,650 village watchmen, according to Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member June Mondejar.
The P25 million was included in the P140-million Supplemental Annual Investment Program that the SP recently approved.
Beneficiaries were selected through the master list of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Iloilo as of July 2020.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. will be announcing the schedule for the release of incentives.
The distribution will be facilitated by the Liga ng mga Barangay or Association of Barangay Captains.
“Posible nga madugangan ang kantidad nga batunon sang mga barangay tanod sa 2021 bangod nga maga-depende ini sa availability of fund,” said Mondejar, chair of the SP’s committee on public order and security.
In early September, the SP approved on third and final reading an ordinance granting benefits and incentives to barangay tanods.
“Kinahanglan man naton nga hatagan sang attention ang aton barangay tanod kay sila ang nagabulig sa mga barangay officials sa pagbantay sang barangay boundary kag sila man ang nagapatuman sang peace and order sa kabarangayan,” said Mondejar./PN
