ILOILO – Around 9,000 barangay volunteer workers in the province’s 1,721 villages are set to receive each a P4,000 cash incentive from the provincial government.

Atty. Suzette Mamon, provincial administrator, said these volunteers include Barangay Health Workers, Day Care Workers, Barangay Service Point Officers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. already directed the provincial treasurer’s office to deploy some of their personnel to assist in the release of the allowances.

“We are talking here of active volunteers actually receiving the amount. Ang fund requirement has already been allocated in the 2020 budget,” said Mamon.

With the current community quarantine protocols set to avert coronavirus transmission, Mamon said they are still finalizing the scheme for the release of cash allowances.

Sa pag-release sang cash allowances, dapat nga i-observe ang minimum health standards kaangay sang social distancing,” she said.

The provision of allowances has been a tradition of the provincial government to provide some help to the barangay service providers who do not receive a fixed salary.

Mamon said the release of the cash allowances is expected to start next week./PN
