BACOLOD City – The Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Island Region launched Brigada Eskwela 2017 at the Dumaguete City National High School.
Secretary Leonor Briones was the May 13 kickoff guest of honor, according to DepEd regional director Gilbert Sadsad.
Brigada Eskwela is also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week.
The activity “aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources to prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year in June,” a DepEd memo dated March 9 stated.
The six-day Brigada (May 15 to 20) has the theme “Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan Para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan.”
Teaching and nonteaching personnel from the 16 divisions of DepEd-Negros joined the launch that started with a “fun walk” at 6 a.m.
Sadsad said Briones told those present that “tayo ay patuloy na magsama-sama, patuloy na magsuporta sa ating mga paaralan … kahit sa anong paraan upang maihanda ang ating mga schools, para ang mga bata ay maging masaya at handa na sa pag-aaral sa June.”
Brigada Eskwela will have a national launching today in Cebu City. All DepEd regional directors are attending, Sadsad said.
“To my dear stakeholders and champions of education, once again, we are knocking on your hearts to continue to help us make our schools ready for schoolchildren this June 2017,” said the DepEd-Negros official.
Any help in any form will be “cherished and remembered,” Sadsad said. “Remember that we are doing this because we love our children and our country.”/PN
