BRINGING HEALTHCARE TO ILOILO’S MARKET VENDORS: A MISSION OF CARE

In the thriving city of Iloilo, where Iloilo Central and Iloilo Terminal markets serve as the lifeblood of the community, a special mission of care took place on April 2, 2025. The SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI), in partnership with the Iloilo City government and various partners, organized a medical and dental mission dedicated to the hardworking market vendors who keep the city’s commerce alive.

These vendors, who tirelessly provide fresh produce, household essentials, and various goods to thousands of residents daily, often put their own health on hold to meet the demands of their livelihoods. Recognizing this, SMFI brought much-needed healthcare services directly to them, ensuring that they receive the medical attention they deserve.

The mission, held within the vicinity of the two major markets, saw a steady stream of vendors taking advantage of free medical check-ups, dental services, and essential health screenings. Physicians and dentists of the Iloilo City Health Office, supported by volunteer nurses and medical staff, provided consultations, minor treatments, tooth extractions, and health education sessions. Many vendors expressed their gratitude, as the initiative allowed them to prioritize their health without having to leave their stalls for extended periods.

Market vendors often face health challenges due to long working hours, exposure to the elements, and physically demanding labor. Free medicines, vitamins, and hygiene kits were also distributed to help them manage their health conditions effectively.

The medical and dental mission not only provided immediate healthcare assistance but also reinforced the importance of preventive care. SMFI’s initiative aligned with its commitment to community service, ensuring that those who contribute significantly to local commerce receive the care and support they need.

The success of the event was a testament to the power of collaboration. With the support of Iloilo’s local government, health organizations, and volunteers, the mission exemplified how corporate social responsibility can make a tangible difference in people’s lives. SMFI’s continued efforts in bringing healthcare closer to underserved communities reaffirm its dedication to a healthier and more resilient society.

For Iloilo’s market vendors, this mission was more than just a day of free medical services—it was a reminder that their well-being matters. Through initiatives like these, SMFI continues to uplift communities, one medical-dental mission at a time.
