ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Government’s commitment to inclusive development is evident not only in major economic areas in the metro but also in the barangays.
Aside from essential basic services, the city government also implemented numerous road network projects and installed over a thousand units of LED lights, solar and wired streetlights.
“We are implementing these infrastructure and road network to promote mobility and enhance accessibility like in the delivery of our basic services. These are all part of a vast effort to realize our goal of creating a more resilient and sustainable future for everyone,” Mayor Jerry Treñas emphasized.
Based on the record of the Iloilo City Engineer’s Office (ICEO), from 2021 to 2023 alone, the city government has implemented the construction, rehabilitation and improvement of road projects in 85 barangays from different districts.
With this, a total area of 75,939 square meters with a total length of 21,657.27 meters of road have been constructed, rehabilitated or improved.
These additional road networks will not only enhance mobility but will also spur economic growth because these will encourage and open business opportunities.
Also, to promote safety and security as well as peace and order, some 1,187 units of streetlights (LED luminaries, solar and wired) have been installed in different barangays and areas across the city from 2022 to 2024.
Meantime, the use of solar streetlights will discourage wiretapping and prevent electric pilferages especially in densely populated areas.
Moreover, several drainage system projects were also implemented in different barangays in the city. These crucial infrastructure projects are aimed to alleviate flooding, and ensure a drier and safer environment for residents.
