BACOLOD City — University of St. La Salle (USLS) Team A defeated USLS Team B to remain undefeated in Class A Men Division in the 6th Bro. Ceci Hojilla Memorial Cup Volleyball Championship at the USLS Dizon Covered Court here.
USLS-A (3-0) took less than an hour to beat USLS-B (1-2) in three sets, 25-17, 25-19, 27-25, Saturday morning, but came back to defeat in decisive five sets San Carlos City-based Central Philippine State University (CPSU) for the latter’s third loss and a win in one hour and 42 minutes match, 25-18, 20-25, 22-25, 25-11, and 15-6.
Earlier, CPSU frustrated their counterparts Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) Talisay for its second straight loss, 25-23, 24-26, 25-18, and 25-19.
Colegio San Agustin–Bacolod (CSA-B) mentored by Michael Larroza dominated University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R), 25-20, 25-17 and 25-22.
In the Men’s B category, debuting defending champ APP/Sun Star, supported by Mark Golez of Silay City, bowed to a much improved Capitol Employees for the latter’s second straight win, 16-25, 16-25, 25-17, and 24-26.
Silay registered its second win against loss versus LST Volleyball Club, 25-10, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, and 15-10.
In Class B Women, USLS Sabado Club entered the win column at the expense of Howling Wolves Club of CHMSC–Alijis, 25-14, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-4.
The fourth winning set was highlighted by a 17-point run-on service by Carmela Arcolas– Gamboa who started to serve at 7-2 mark to up her team’s advantage to 24-2.
Yesterday, USLS Sabado Club registered another win against Provincial Capitol Employees, 25-6, 25-8 and 25-21.
Howling Wolves Club of CHMSC–Alijis absorbed another beating from La Carlota City College.
On Saturday, newly installed coach, Jan Mar Aguillon of Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) girls’ squad led his team to a come-from-behind win over Trinity Christian School, 22-25, 25-16 and 25-20 in the Class C Girls’ Division.
BTTHS followed this up with another win yesterday against St. Joseph School–La Salle (SJS–LS), 30-28 and 25-23, in the morning.
However, SJS–LS won its match against Trinity Christian School, 25-21, and 26-24 in the afternoon.
Living Stone Integrated School, debuted by out-steadying Peter Yusay, coached St. John’s Institute, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-19./PN
