BACOLOD City – A city police chief and 268 police non-commissioned officers in Negros Occidental were temporarily reassigned to other areas in preparation for the upcoming Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

The reassignment was intended to safeguard the peace and order situation for the BSKE and in compliance with the Omnibus Election Code, according to Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOCPPO) spokesperson Captain Judesses Catalogo.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca, chief of Silay City police station, was reassigned to NOCPPO headquarters.

Silay City police station is currently manned by Police Major Rhea Sara Villanueva.

Catalogo added that 268 other cops were reassigned to other local government units, adding that they will return to their previous assignments once the election period is over.

The election period for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections started on Aug. 28, the start of filing of certificates of candidacy, and will end on Nov. 29.

Earlier, NOCPPO director Colonel Leo Pamittan said police personnel who have relatives running for various positions for the upcoming BSKE will be reassigned to other areas.
