MANILA – Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) governor Nestor Espenilla, who is battling tongue cancer, will be on leave from Friday until Jan. 21 to seek treatment abroad, the central bank said.
Deputy governors Diwa Guinigundo and Cyd Amador will take turns as officer in charge while Espenilla is away, the BSP said in a statement.
“The Governor will be obtaining medical care overseas as part of his continuing treatment program,” according to the statement.
“As an organization, the BSP remains focused on its mandate to ensure stable prices and maintain a sound financial system,” it said.
