ILOILO – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)-Iloilo will have its new home soon.

On June 17, BSP incoming governor Felipe Medalla, the BSP Monetary Board members, Mayor Jerry Treñas of this city and Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo province led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new BSP-Iloilo Building on Broadway Street at the Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao district.

According to Rosabel Guerrero, BSP managing director for regional operations, the construction of their new building will take 18 to 24 months to complete.

She said that with their new office, they expect to have faster and more transactions of banks done. It would be easier for the banks and other BSP stakeholders to transact considering the location which is with less traffic.

The site location is also a more secured place with the police office in the area.

To note, Megaworld’s Andrew Tan, who graced the groundbreaking, donated 2,500 square meters of lot to the city government for the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Megaworld.

“We also consider access to the airport and seaports – our regional operations particularly our branch operation. Our primary responsibility here is to ensure the supply of currency will be available to the public. The transport of currency is important that we have access to airport and seaport,” said Guerrero.

Treñas, who welcomed the guests which also include Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Puyat, said the would-be new building of the BSP-Iloilo pave the way for broad and convenient access to high quality financial services and considered the interest of the general public./PN
