BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) apprehended 38 drivers and colorum tricycles plying in Barangay Handumanan here for violating city traffic ordinances.
BTAO head Police Major Junji Liba said of the 38 they apprehended on Monday, Sept. 5, 15 were colorum tricycles and these were impounded.
Violators were issued citation tickets depending on their violations, mostly with no driver’s license or certificate of registration.
They were fined not less than P1,500, Liba further said.
BTAO intensified its campaign against colorum tricycles and electronic bikes (e-bikes) in Barangay Handumanan following complaints from the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association of Handumanan (TODAH) composed of 300 members.
Diego Malacad, secretary general of the United Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) and chairman of Federation of Bacolod City Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (FEBACTODA), said they sought the assistance of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), BTAO, and the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) regarding the colorum or unregistered tricycles plying in their area.
TODAH also held a transport strike on Sept. 5 to express their sentiments after almost a month of waiting with no action made.
As of yesterday, Liba said TODAH resumed their operations after the BTAO conducted the apprehension./PN
