BUDGET Secretary Amenah Pangandaman told lawmakers Monday that “rightsizing” government agencies will help fill up vacant posts in government offices.

At her agency’s budget briefing, Pangandaman said that passing the National Government Rightsizing Program (NGRP) into law can help vacant posts by job order and contract of service in the government.

Hindi lang po ‘yan basta pagtanggal at pagsama-sama nung mga ahensya but at the same time, we wanted to also fix the positions, and then do reclassifications within departments and agencies across the national government,” she explained.

Pangandaman said changing the sizes of government agencies will create an agile and responsive bureaucracy.

Ayaw naman po natin ng gobyerno na masyadong bloated tapos hindi naman po maganda ang serbisyo. Sayang ang pera ng taumbayan,” she said.

The official also suggested the reclassification of positions to fill up vacant posts in the government.

Puwede po kami maglabas ng circular of sorts – the Civil Service [Commission] and DBM to really encourage – across the board po – lahat ng agency to already reclassify and fill up their positions,” she said.

Pangandaman had earlier suggested the merging and restructuring of overlapping government agencies in 2022.

Government employees have expressed hesitance towards this proposal, fearing loss of their jobs. (ABS-CBN News)
